How I will work with you

I work with both individuals and couples. I will ensure that you are at the centre of our work together. I will give you the time and space you need to explore the things that are troubling you.  We will think together about the issues you want to work on. Life experiences affect each of us emotionally, cognitively and physically and I will work with you to explore how the issues you bring impact your well-being and help you to find a path through and a way forward.

Tailored to your needs

Therapy with me will always be tailored to you and to your needs.  Because I have experience and skills in many different types of therapy and ways of working, I combine psychodynamic, psychosexual, person centred, psychological, and behavioural work as needed for you, whether you come as an individual or couple. Different types of therapy help different people; we are all unique. So, the therapy I provide is always tailored to meet the needs of each individual or couple I work with. 

 

The psychodynamic parts of my training mean that I will help you to consider how past experiences and ways of responding, some of which may be unconscious, may be impacting in the present.  This exploration can often enable you to gain a deeper understanding or a new perspective on any difficulties you may have in your relationship.  Then you can work towards a different and positive way forward.

 

The psychosexual parts of my training mean that I will help you to explore, discuss and work on any sexual issues that may be affecting you and impacting in your relationships.  I may provide psychosexual educational material, or set you specifically tailored exercises to complete in the privacy of your own home.

 

The person-centred aspects of my training mean that you are always the centre of our work; we will explore what it is that you bring, in a non-judgemental, open and genuine way.  All of this, along with my knowledge of developmental psychology means that I can help you to understand, accept and work to overcome the life events that have affected you and the people you are in relationships with.

Let’s chat during an initial consultation

I offer an extended initial consultation period so that we can use the first few sessions of therapy to discuss your situation and what you hope to get out of therapy. If we decide to work together we will agree how best to do this. Usually a commitment to regular, weekly therapy is most helpful. We may agree to focus on specific areas, or to work together for an agreed number of sessions, or we may work in open ended therapy. I try to offer clients as much flexibility as possible.

Online or face to face therapy

I mainly work on-line via Zoom. I am very experienced in on-line work, having trained in it and used it extensively before the COVID pandemic but I do understand that some clients prefer face to face work. So, I offer a limited number of face to face sessions.
